Bath Outdoors Surly Karate Monkey - What we have to say about this custom build:
We're long term fans of the Surly Karate Monkey. This is one of the most versatile steel hardtails out there and an iconic bike any cyclist would love to own. We have built this up to look good and perform in a rigid steel hardtail 27.5 plus tyre, Shimano 1x11 speed format.
We love a bit of Green with Orange which is why we've blended in the Hope Tech components on the build including the awesome Hope Pro4 Fortus 35 Wheels. Some other touches we enjoyed include; the Surly Bikes Terminal Bar which we think really adds to the comfort and handling; sweet looking Whisky Parts seat post; Terravail Honcho with the Tan Walls really making the frame pop backed up by a mix of the solid performance of a Shimano XT, SLX and Deore groups. This bike is designed to look good paired with the ability to ride off the edge of the world!
However, if you would like to modify the spec with a suspension fork, 29er wheels or anything else then please let us know and we can cost it up for you.
Any questions about this build? Feel free to email us or give us a call at the shop for more information or to chat through the build kit.
Please note: that we have used a stock photo for the Gold frame on the website. The Green and black frames in all of the photos are pictures of the actual build kits at the shop :).
This is what Surly have to say about the Karate Monkey:
Karate Monkey delivers a resilient, lively ride on all sorts of gnarly terrain. Its frame is a highly-versatile canvas for whatever dirty masterpiece your brain cooks up. According to our computing machine (Thor) it can be set up in approximately 487 different configurations.
Originally designed as a 29er (and the frame that helped spark the 29” wheel movement), the latest Karate Monkey is designed to perform just as admirably as a 27.5+ rig as well. This allows you to pick your poison — provided your poison is having a really great time while permanently donning a shit-eating grin, of course.
